Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Development
The Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work at the University of the West Indies (Mona Campus) now offers an exciting new opportunity for study in the two-year long Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Development.
TARGET GROUPS
It is designed to offer continuing education credits either to persons who already possess at least a good B achelors degree and who work in an administrative capacity with the human capital of the organisation but who do not have the requisite academic training for their posts or to persons who take it for continuing education credits as prescribed by an recognised professional body.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Candidates for this Higher Degree Diploma will be required to have a minimum requirement of a Bachelors degree and at least three years’ post-graduation practical work experience at a senior management level. Admission decisions will be based on an evaluation of the complete record for the applicant, which includes academic performance, work experience, evaluations, recommendations and evidence of motivation and skills relevant for a successful professional career.
Graduates should request degree-granting institutions, other than UWI, to forward their official transcript directly to the Office of Graduate Studies and Research, Registry, Mona Campus, Kingston 7, Jamaica, as soon as possible.
REFERENCES MUST ACCOMPANY THE APPLICATION FORMS IN SEALED AND SIGNED ENVELOPES. APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED WITHOUT THE RELEVANT DOCUMENTS.
Application forms for this programme will become available at the Offices of Graduate Studies and Research, The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Mona, St. Augustine Campuses and from the University Representatives in the Non-Campus Territories during February 2007. Applications will be available also online at www.mona.uwi.edu/postgrad.
The deadline for the receipt of completed application forms is Wednesday, 28 February 2007. An application fee of JA$250.00 is payable to the Cashier, UWI Bursary. The receipt should be submitted on collection or return (in the case where forms were downloaded) of the forms.
Please note that the opening hours for the Cashier, Mona Bursary, are 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The Diploma Programme in Human Resource Development will be delivered on a part-time basis over a two-year period. It comprises twenty (20) credits from taught courses. The schedule of taught courses includes eleven (11) courses that are structured into modules ranging from 1-3 credits. These courses cover a range of content areas that include human resource theory and opportunities for personal development. This Diploma has twelve (12) credits (in seven (7) courses) in common with the Ph.D. in Organisational Behaviour and while completion of this diploma is neither a pre-requisite for, nor guarantees entry into the PhD programme, candidates would be able to offer these for consideration when applying for admission to the second cohort of the PhD Programme.
FUNDING
The fees for academic year 2007-2008 are JA$134,000.00 per annum. This does not, however, include the University’s miscellaneous fees or the cost of your books.
